There are two small permanent communities on islands just off the coast of the Antarctican peninsula; Villa Las Estrellas (inhabited by Chileans) and the Argentinean Esperanza base (where some children are born and raised—and they have schools). I wonder what cuisines might have have begun to develop there—perhaps the earliest beginnings of a "native" Antarctican culture, may be forming.

http://www.coolantarctica.com/Antarctica%20fact%20file/science/can_you_live_in_antarctica.php

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_Las_Estrellas

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanza_Base
Jm8https://www.blogger.com/profile/15508192996701397187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867670219440554340.post-43718303388718775022015-08-20T17:45:05.314-07:002015-08-20T17:45:05.314-07:00So excited to find your site. We have a group that gets together every month for a country night (and yes - we knew it wasn't a country, but we wanted to do it anyway), and this month is Antarctica. Someone was already making pemmican and biscuits, so I'm excited to share these!

I am amazed at the measures you took to make sure you got authentic food, and I'm so glad you shared!Four Young Ladies at Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06894874531649970583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867670219440554340.post-16534172608511816302012-06-21T14:35:46.853-07:002012-06-21T14:35:46.853-07:00I'm so glad I could help! It was a lot of research but I'm really glad I did it, because the food was good and the entry really fun to write. And if I can help a few people too, that's a nice bonus. :-) Thanks for commenting!Becki Robinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00297315758886641877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867670219440554340.post-16718433376114719782012-06-21T14:18:51.509-07:002012-06-21T14:18:51.509-07:00Boy am I glad I found you! What we have them do is spin the globe to pick a country. This is the first time we've had anyone pick Antarctica. Thank you for all your hard work in finding these recipes. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16928512078590605898noreply@blogger.com
